Ayala Foundation

On the drive to Pasig I saw more of the amazing jeepneys and asked Matt about driving in Manila. He laughed when I remarked that people used their horns a lot, and he told me that the numerous buses and jeepneys are kings of the road. A briefing at the British Council where we went through the weeks programme in more detail, then on to a meeting at the Ayala Foundation. The foundation has been looking at ICT infrastructure, in particular at secondary schools. I learned about NGOs, the key partnerships with businesses in the Philippines, recording achievement in education, the need to consider sustainabilty, the penetration of new technologies in schools and homes. The best bit for me was when we talked about how we all learnt our computer skills - I learned nearly all my ICT skills informally or opportunistically, there must be ways to take advantage of this kind of knowledge-building through ICT. The best thing about what I'm interested in is that its free - or at least free if the infrastructure is in place.
